2025. október 18. – A Közép-Európai Rali harmadik napja megterhelő volt, de a Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team versenyzői, Ott Tänak és Martin Järveoja a Super Sunday előtt a dobogós pozícióba kerültek.

A szombat volt a hétvége leghosszabb versenynapja: a Made in FRG (SS9/14, 14,30 km), a Keply (SS10/12, 21,95 km) és a Klatovy (SS11/13, 15,57 km) két körében 103,64 km versenytávot tettek meg. A péntekhez hasonlóan a csapatok hátrányban voltak a déli szerviz hiánya miatt, és ismét csak egy távoli gumiabroncs-cserélő zónára támaszkodhattak a végső beállítások elvégzéséhez. Az időjárási körülmények romlottak, az eső reggel végig kísérte a szakaszokat.

A pénteki nehézségek után Tänak és Järveoja szombaton megújult erővel tért vissza a pályára. Az észt páros a rajtól kezdve megmutatta a Hyundai i20 N Rally1-es autójának sebességét, és az összes reggeli szakaszon a legjobb háromban szerepelt. Délután is megismételték ezt a teljesítményt, és még egy lépéssel tovább mentek, megnyerve az SS12 szakaszt. Erős teljesítményükkel megelőzték Elfyn Evanst, és miután Sébastien Ogier kiesett az élen, a páros a második helyre lépett előre az összetettben.

A francia Adrien Fourmaux és Alexandre Coria szombaton is továbbra is frusztrációval küzdött. Annak ellenére, hogy szilárd tempót mutattak, végül nem tudtak teljes mértékben belelendülni a nap szakaszaiba. Thierry Neuville és Martijn Wydaeghe újabb kihívásokkal teli napot éltek át; a kiszámíthatatlan időjárási körülmények miatt a belgák a lágy és esőgumi keverékét választották – ez a döntés azonban nem adott nekik elég önbizalmat. A gumistratégia és a trükkös útvonalprofilok nehézségeket okoztak Neuville/Wydaeghe párosnak, de a napot az SS14 szakaszgyőzelemmel zárták, ami pozitív véget adott az egyébként kiábrándító napnak.

A bajnokságért folyó küzdelem a verseny utolsó napja előtt egyre szorosabbá válik, és a Hyundai Motorsport mindhárom csapata tudja, mit kell tennie a szupervasárnapon, hogy maximalizálja a hétvégi pontjait.

Sikerült kissé javítanunk az egyensúlyt, hogy nagyobb sebességgel haladhassunk a szakaszokon, de még mindig nem tudjuk felvenni a versenyt a leggyorsabb autókkal. Nem tudom, hogy a holnapi szakaszok nekünk kedvezőek lesznek-e, de mindent megteszek, hogy megőrizzem a mai nap végén elért pozíciónkat.”

Neuville: „Ma sokat tanultunk, délután egyértelműen javultunk. Holnap újabb lehetőségünk lesz arra, hogy a lehető legtöbbet kihozzuk a hétvégén szerzett információkból. Ott ma sokkal kényelmesebben érzi magát, különösen a nehezebb szakaszokon, így ezek mind előrelépések. Holnap is folytatjuk a különböző beállítások tesztelését, máris Japánban jár az eszünk – az a néhány extra pont megváltoztathatja a szezont.”

Andrew Wheatley, a Hyundai Motorsport WRC sportigazgatója: „Ma, lépésről lépésre, apránként kezdünk jó előrelépéseket látni. Azt hiszem, mindenki küzd azért, hogy 100%-osan kényelmesen érezze magát az autóban – de nehéz egyetlen helyen tesztelni a három ország és három különböző típusú szakasz által jelentett speciális körülményeket. Nagyon sok változás van, ezért időre van szükségünk, hogy megértsük, merre haladunk. Ott kivételes teljesítményt nyújtott – felvette az autót, és a lehető leggyorsabban hajtotta az úton. October 18, 2025 – A demanding day three at Central European Rally saw Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team’s Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja progress into the provisional podium positions ahead of Super Sunday.

Saturday marked the longest day of competition across the weekend: two loops of Made in FRG (SS9/14, 14.30km), Keply (SS10/12, 21.95km) and Klatovy (SS11/13, 15.57km) covered 103.64km of competitive distance. Similarly to Friday, crews were disadvantaged by the absence of a midday service, and once again had to rely on just a remote tyre-fitting zone to make any final tweaks. Weather conditions worsened, with rain gracing the stages across the morning loop.

After struggling on Friday, Tänak and Järveoja returned to the stages on Saturday as a rejuvenated pair. From the start, the Estonians were demonstrating their pace in the Hyundai i20 N Rally1, recording a top-three stage time across all of the morning stages. They would go on to repeat this in the afternoon, and take it one step further with a stage win on SS12. A strong run allowed them to advance past Elfyn Evans, and alongside Sébastien Ogier’s retirement from the lead, the pair were lifted to second overall.

Frenchmen Adrien Fourmaux and Alexandre Coria continued to face frustration on Saturday. Despite showcasing some solid pace, they ultimately could not get into full flow on the day’s stages. Lack of grip was their main opponent; the crew could not optimise their setup across the turbulent Czech stages and clinch anything more than a fourth-place stage finish. With useful insights gained over day three, Fourmaux/Coria finish the day in fifth and understand the adjustments required for Sunday.

Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe endured another challenging day; with the unpredictable weather conditions, the Belgians opted for a mix of soft and wet tyres – a choice that did not give them the confidence they needed. The tyre strategy and tricky road profiles proved difficult for Neuville/Wydaeghe, but the crew ended the day with a stage win on SS14, a positive end to an otherwise disappointing day.

With the championship fight tightening up before the final day of competition, all three Hyundai Motorsport crews know what they have to do on Super Sunday to maximise their weekend points hauls.

Tänak said: “Today was consistent, but we’re still missing a bit in the trickier conditions. We managed to improve the balance a bit to carry some more speed over the stages, but we’re still not able to match the fastest cars. I don’t know if tomorrow’s stages are going to suit us, but I’ll give it my best to take everything I can to protect the position we are in at the end of today.”

Fourmaux said: “We found some direction today with Thierry, he found a slightly better setup than us, so we now understand what we are missing. We’ve found really good pace on the flat roads that we didn’t have in the Canaries, but now we’re struggling on the bumpier, greasier sections. I want to enjoy tomorrow, so we will take our learnings from today and go for it.”

Neuville said: “We learned a lot today, there was definitely some improvement for us in the afternoon. Tomorrow is another day to maximise the information we can take from this weekend. Ott is feeling much more comfortable today, especially in the trickier places, so these are all steps forward. We will keep testing different setups tomorrow, we are already in Japan with our thinking – those few extra points may change the season.”

Hyundai Motorsport WRC Sporting Director Andrew Wheatley said: “Today, step by step and bit by bit, we’re starting to see some good progress. I think everyone is struggling to get 100% comfortable with the car – but it’s hard to test in any one location for the specific conditions we have here with three countries and three different kinds of stages. There’s quite a lot of variation going on, so we just need time to understand the direction we’re going in. Ott’s been exceptional – he picked the car up and pushed it down the road as fast as he possibly could. Thierry has been working through set-up options and his pace shows we’ve made progress, and Adrien is in a comfortable position building knowledge and experience in these conditions. We will give it our all tomorrow as a team to keep moving forward.”
